Access to City Yard Today

Due to work being done on the water main at the intersection of Tremont Street and Lynn Fells Parkway, the DPW City Yard and Recycling Center must be accessed by Tremont Street coming from Emerson. This work could continue into tomorrow. Thank you for bearing with us and any inconvenience this may cause.

Your Help Needed Watering New Street Trees

The city has recently planted a number of young street trees throughout the city and help is urgently needed from Melrose citizens to keep them watered so that they will survive and hopefully thrive.

Trees have most recently been planted on Howard Street, Summer Street, and Brunswick Park. Additional plantings have yet to occur. All new trees have  been planted with a TREEGATOR® (portable drip-irrigation system) that helps collect and direct water to the roots of the young trees. These will be removed after the first heavy frost of the season.

Your assistance in watering these newly planted trees is truly appreciated, especially given the current drought conditions. Instructions for how to properly use the TREEGATOR® are below.

Tree Gator Watering Bag

Step 1:

  • Lift tag to expose fill opening (slot) at top of bag.
  • Insert hose into fill opening and begin filling with water.

Step 2:

  • Fill bag to only 1/4 capacity.
  • Gently lift on straps to expand bag.
  • Fill to desired level & let drip until empty.

If you have any questions about this matter you can call the Public Works Department at (781) 665-0142 or visit the TREEGATOR® website at http://www.treegator.com.
