2016 Curbside Collection Calendar

The 2016 Curbside Solid Waste and Recycling Collection Schedule is now available! This schedule (see below) will be mailed out to Melrose residents very soon.

Holiday Reminder: Trash & Recycling Schedule

Curbside Collection Schedule

The Public Works Department reminds residents that there will be no curbside collection on Friday, January 1 due to the New Year’s Holiday. Friday’s trash and recycling routes will be picked up on Saturday, January 2. (Curbside collection of recycling and trash will be on a normal schedule through Thursday, December 30.)

Curbside collection of Christmas trees will occur on the same day as trash and recycling for the next 3 weeks, beginning on Monday, December 28th and continuing through the Friday, January 15.

Recycling Center (City Yard) Hours

The Recycling Center (City Yard) at 72 Tremont Street will be closing at 11:45 a.m. on Thursday, December 31 and will remain closed through the weekend. We will be open during regular weekday hours of 7:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. this Monday through Wednesday.

Christmas Tree Disposal Options

DPW will have curbside collection of Christmas trees and greens in conjunction with the regular curbside schedule Monday, December 28th through Friday, January 15th. Bare trees can be placed out alongside trash and recycling bins on your neighborhood’s collection day.

Please remove stand and all plastic bags, tinsel, twine, lights, ornaments, etc. from the tree. Wreaths and garlands must be free of any wires and decorations; they will not be picked up if any of the above are present.

In addition to these 3 weeks of curbside pickup, the Public Works Operations Facility and Recycling Center, located at 72 Tremont Street, will be accepting tree drop-offs during normal business hours (Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.).

(Curbside collection of recycling and trash will be on a normal schedule through Thursday, December 24th.)

Curbside collection of Christmas trees will begin on Monday, December 28th and continue through the 2nd week of January. Stay tuned for a forthcoming announcement with further details.

Recycling Center (City Yard) Hours

The Recycling Center (City Yard) at 72 Tremont Street will be closing at noon on Thursday, December 24th and will remain closed through the weekend. We will be open during regular weekday hours of 7:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Monday through Wednesday of next week.

Saturday Hours Ending Dec. 12 (resuming April 2016)

Please note that Saturday, December 12th will be our last scheduled Saturday opening of the year.

The City Yard/Recycling Center at 72 Tremont Street will remain open Monday through Friday 7:30am – 3:00pm throughout the year.

The facility will re-open on Saturdays in April of 2016.

If you have any of the following items that need to be recycled or composted and cannot bring them down to our facility during a weekday please bring them in on either Saturday, December 5th or Saturday December 12th.

  • yard waste (under 1 inch in diameter)
  • CRT’s ($10-15) including televisions, monitors, and lap tops
  • CFL bulbs & mercury items
  • rechargeable batteries
  • tires ($2-4)
  • clothes & other textiles
  • books
  • dried latex paint

The fees on certain items help defray the expenses associated with properly recycling the materials.
