Post Holiday Recycling

The DPW Facility will be open on Saturday, January 5, 2019 from 8 a.m. until 11:45 a.m. for a Saturday Recycling drop off event. At this event, DPW will be accepting Christmas Trees, cardboard, Styrofoam, electronics and other recycling items. This is a great opportunity to clean up and purge from your holiday activities.

Curbside collection of Christmas Trees will start on Monday, January 7, 2019 and take place through Friday, January 18, 2019. Trees should be left curbside on your regularly scheduled collection day. The trees should be free of decorations, lights and without plastic bags.

Trees can be dropped off at the Melrose DPW Recycling Facility and/or Mt. Hood upper parking lot starting Wednesday, January 2, 2019. The DPW Facility is open during the week from 7:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.; The Mt. Hood drop off area is accessible at all times.

January 5 – Post-Holiday Recycling (Cardboard, Paper, Styrofoam, Electronics, Tree & more!)

April 20 – Motor Oil/Gas/Antifreeze

May 18 – Paper Shredding with JRM

June 15 – Spring Swap Day (City Hall parking lot)

June  29 – Hazardous Waste Day in Stoneham*

September 21 –  Motor Oil/Gas/Antifreeze

September 28 -Fall Swap Day (City Hall parking lot)

October 19 – Rigid Plastics

October 26 – Hazardous Waste Day in Melrose

The items collected at all DPW events (except Swap Day & HHW Day) include: plastic bags, screens (TVs, monitors & laptops: $20), metal goods ($25), tires ($2-$8), office electronics, CFL bulbs, books, clothes, mercury items, & dried latex paint. Recycling Center stickers & recycling label stickers will also be available.

*Melrose & Stoneham are partnering on recycling events in 2019 and this event will be held at Stoneham High School at 149 Franklin St.. from 9:00 a.m.—1:00 p.m.

 

DPW – Holiday Schedule

The Department of Public Works announces the following schedule for the upcoming holiday weeks.

Week of Monday, December 24, 2018

  1. All Public Works Offices will be closed on Monday and Tuesday .. including the DPW Operations, Engineering, Water & Sewer Billing and Cemetery Offices.
  2. Monday trash and recycling collection will be on schedule; Tuesday through Friday collection will be one day delayed .. Tuesday will be collected on Wednesday; Wednesday will be collected on Thursday; Thursday will be collected on Friday; Friday will be collected on Saturday.
  3. The DPW Recycling Facility will be open on Monday, December 24, 2018 until 11:45 a.m. for drop off of recycling items, yard waste, etc. We will then be open from Wednesday to Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
  4. The DPW Facility will be closed on Saturday, December 29, 2018.
  5. Outside of any unforeseen emergencies, all construction activities will be shut down for this week.

Week of Monday, December 31, 2018
