Mattress Recycling on June 18

Melrose DPW is holding its third mattress recycling event on June 18th from 8 a.m. to noon at 72 Tremont Street. Any type of mattresses or box spring can be dropped off for free.

The mattresses and box springs collected at the event will be picked up and recycled by the Lowell-based United Teen Equality Center (UTEC), an organization that provides jobs and GED preparation classes for proven-risk youth in Lowell and Lawrence.

As stated on their website, UTEC’s mission and promise is “to ignite and nurture the ambition of our most disconnected youth to trade violence and poverty for social and economic success”.

Also on June 18, DPW will be accepting the usual items that are collected at all events (besides Swap Day) include: CRT’s including televisions, monitors and lap tops ($10-$15), electronics, CFL bulbs, books, clothes, tires ($2-$8), mercury items, dried latex paint and metal goods ($20). Recycling Center stickers and recycling label stickers will be available.
